Laurie Krauz

   Catch Me If You Can

This is Laurie Krauz's first album. It is an opportunity for you to know what I have known about Laurie for some time. There is this quality of excitement about her - a glamour and a vitality in her work.

In 1996, I was hearing more than favorable reviews about Laurie from jazz and cabaret critics whose opinions I greatly respected. At the same time, I received a cassette containing five songs Laurie had recorded for a demo, was impressed by what I heard and asked her to be a part of an on-air concert paying tribute to the works of Billy Strayhorn. Laurie's performance was, in the true sense of the word, stunning. Needless to say, I've caught her act on many occasions. What was evident on her demo recording, during her on-air performance and in her subsequent club engagements, is evident here. She is a versatile jazz vocalist. She is light and carefree, deep and dark. She is hot and sultry. She's the re-birth of Cool. And, best of all, she can Swing!

What others are saying about this album...

"Vocal and style comparisons to icons such as Sarah Vaughan, Nina Simone and Annie Ross are inevitable as Krauz often seems to be channeling them while putting her own unique stamp on the material... and her amazing recreation of a muted trumpet on "Ducksoup..." is worth the price of the CD. (Note - it wasn't until the third playing that I realized it wasn't a trumpet!)"
- David Hurst, Show Business

“Her offering of the Mendes/Bergman bossa, So Many Stars was a veritable tour de force. She’s obviously a seasoned pro.... Krauz focuses on her songs with a strong musical sense thus enhancing their beauty. Send me some tickets Laurie and break a leg girl!”
- George W. Carroll/The Musicians’ Ombudsman, ejazznews.com

"...throbbing and colorful and delightfully unpredictable..."
- David Finkle, Back Stage

"...if a singer who can become an instrument of bebop is your thing, check out Laurie Krauz...."
- Lesley Alexander, WRTN-FM/WVOX-AM
